International Inbound Student doing Industrial Visit to Amerta Indah Otsuka, Sukabumi

On 28 November 2024, 12 international inbound students from IPB University, accompanied by two Indonesian students and one staff member from the International Education Directorate, embarked on a fascinating visit to Amerta Indah Otsuka in Sukabumi, West Java. This visit was an exciting opportunity for the students to learn about one of Indonesia’s leading companies in the beverage industry, and to deepen their understanding of local industry practices and regulations.

The participants were introduced to the history and success of Amerta Indah Otsuka, the Indonesian subsidiary of Otsuka Pharmaceutical Company, known for iconic products like Pocari Sweat, Oronamin-C and Soyjoy. They learned about the company’s origins, its market expansion in Indonesia, and how it tailors its products to meet local needs. The visit included a tour of the state-of-the-art production facilities, where students observed advanced manufacturing technologies, including the precise systems used for production and packaging. They also gained insight into Amerta Indah Otsuka’s commitment to quality, sustainability, and research and development, particularly in beverages like Pocari Sweat, designed to efficiently hydrate the body with essential electrolytes.

” This was my first time visiting a company in Indonesia, and I was curious about their safety management practices. However, I found that Otsuka is a very clean company, similar to Japanese companies. It was also interesting to see how popular the company is, as the tour was fully booked, which shows how much Otsuka is loved by many Indonesians. For Japanese people, Pocari Sweat is very familiar, but I was both surprised and happy to learn that Indonesians also enjoy it. From this experience, I realized that Otsuka is truly a global company; they have successfully adopted halal practices and expanded throughout Indonesia”. (Kanako OE, Exchange Student in IPB University from Tokyo University)

This visit provided valuable lessons on business practices, technology, and regulations, while also fostering international ties among students. The event reflected IPB University’s dedication to offering hands-on learning opportunities and international collaboration, helping students gain broader perspectives and prepare for global challenge.
