Collaboration Between IPB University and Jeju National University: Guest Lectures & International Student Forum on Tropical and Sub-Tropical Fruit Research in Indonesia and Korea
Bogor, January 22, 2025 – IPB University, through the Directorate of International Education, successfully organized the Guest Lectures & International Student Forum titled Advancing Research on Tropical and Sub-Tropical Fruits in Indonesia and Korea. The event, held at Auditorium Satari, Faculty of Medicine, IPB University, was a collaboration between IPB University and Jeju National University, South Korea.
This forum sought to strengthen academic and research collaboration in agronomy, horticulture, and biochemistry, with a particular emphasis on the study of tropical and subtropical fruits. The event featured three distinguished academics from IPB University and Jeju National University as keynote speakers:
- Prof. Darda Efendi (Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, IPB University) presenters “Indonesian Tropical FruitsL Genetic Resources and Characters”.
- Prof. Boo Kyunghwan (Jeju National University) delivered a talk on “Advancing Jeju’s Citrus Industry and Research (Innovation and Sustainability)”.
- Dr. Dimas Andrianto (Department of Biochemistry, IPB University) discussed “Screening of Antioxidant and Antihyperlipidemic Activity from Indonesia Underutilized Fruits)”.
Alongside keynote lectures, the forum featured student research presentations from IPB University and Jeju National University, organized into three main sessions:
- Session 1: Featured presentation from Agronomy and Horticulture students of IPB University, covering research on somatic embryogenesis in mandarin oranges, in-vitro conservation of Terap (Artocarpus elasticus), and the characterization and quality assessment of avocado fruits.
- Session 2: Presented by students from Jeju National University, focusing on the analysis of functional compounds in citrus fruits and soil environments in citrus orchids
- Session 3: Showcased research from Biochemistry students of IPB University, discussing antioxidant activity in green spinach and the effects of black soldier fly larvae biofertilizer on Cilembu sweet potatoes.
Cultural Exchange: Painting Traditional Farmer Hats Together
The event ended with a cultural exchange activity in which students from IPB University and Jeju National University painted caping (traditional farmer hats) together. This experience became a highlight, fostering strong friendships among the students.
This forum is expected to enhance collaboration between IPB University and Jeju National University, fostering innovation in tropical and subtropical fruit research to promote global food security and sustainable agriculture.
