Summer Course – Community Nutrition

Maternal and Child Nutrition Program in Indonesia

Program Overview

The 8th IPB Nutrition Summer Course 2025 focuses on maternal and child nutrition, recognizing its crucial role in shaping the health and productivity of future generations. The First 1,000 Days of Life—spanning from pregnancy to a child’s second birthday—is a critical period for growth and development. Nutritional deficiencies during this stage can lead to irreversible consequences, including impaired cognitive function and long-term health issues.

Despite various government initiatives, Indonesia continues to face significant nutritional challenges. The country ranks fifth globally for the highest number of stunted children, with 24.4% of children under five affected (UNICEF, 2021). Additionally, maternal anemia remains a pressing issue, with 48.9% of pregnant women affected (Riskesdas, 2018). To address these concerns, national policies such as Presidential Regulation No. 42/2013 on the National Movement for Accelerated Nutrition Improvement advocate a multi-sectoral approach, including iron and folic acid supplementation, exclusive breastfeeding promotion, and balanced supplementary feeding programs.

The course also fosters international collaboration and knowledge exchange, bringing together students and experts from multiple countries.
