Summer Course – Biology

Tropical Insect Biology

Summer Course – Department of Biology

The Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), IPB University, proudly presents The 7th Summer Course on Biology 2025, themed “Tropical Insect Biology”. Scheduled between July and August 2025 at IPB University, Dramaga Campus, this program explores Indonesia’s rich tropical insect biodiversity, one of the world’s largest due to the country’s megadiverse ecosystems.

Organized in collaboration with the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle (MNHN), Paris, France, this program aims to explore and highlight the diversity of tropical insects in Indonesia. Participants will receive in-depth training on insect biology, including taxonomy, ecology, molecular biology, and conservation applications aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The program will feature international experts from:
•  Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle (MNHN), France
•  National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore
•  Naturalis Biodiversity Center, the Netherlands

The Summer Course will be conducted in two formats:
•  Online lectures covering fundamental topics such as insect taxonomy, bioacoustics, molecular biology, and conservation
•  On-site workshops and fieldwork, including hands-on insect exploration and laboratory analysis at IPB University

Why Join?
This program enhances participants’ understanding of the role of insects in ecosystems while equipping them with practical skills in insect research and conservation. Supporting SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 15 (Life on Land Conservation), this initiative also contributes to IPB University’s goal of achieving higher global rankings as a World-Class University.

Since 2018, the Department of Biology at IPB University has successfully hosted six editions of this Summer Course, reinforcing its commitment to international collaboration and excellence in biodiversity research.

Join us in exploring the fascinating world of tropical insects and advancing sustainable biodiversity research!
