Summer Course – Environmental Resource Economics

Reducing Carbon Footprints: Lessons Learned for the Post-COVID-19 World

Program Overview

The 9th ESL IPB Summer Course 2025 explores the intricate relationships between ecotourism, nature conservation, and food security. As tourism grows, it poses challenges to environmental sustainability and food security, yet ecotourism has the potential to support sustainable food production while promoting responsible travel.

Organized by the Department of Environmental and Resource Economics (ESL), Faculty of Economics and Management (FEM), IPB University, in collaboration with the Master’s Program in Environmental and Resource Economics, this program provides participants with essential knowledge and critical perspectives on balancing conservation efforts with economic and social needs.

Through interactive lectures, field visits, and discussions, participants will analyze trade-offs and synergies between conservation, tourism, and food security, explore valuation methods for natural resources, and engage in real-world case studies across diverse ecosystems, including mountainous regions, urban parks, and coastal areas.

This Summer Course aligns with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).

Featuring renowned international speakers, the program combines online and hybrid sessions, fostering global collaboration and knowledge exchange on sustainable tourism and environmental management.
