IPB Inbound Students of Even Semester 2024/2025 Follow Appreciation and Farewell Activities Full of Culture in Lembur Sawah

Bogor, June 8, 2025 – A total of 10 international exchange students of even semester 2024/2025 followed the Appreciation, Certificate Ceremony, and Farewell Party activities held by the Directorate of International Education of IPB. This warm activity took place at Saung Eling, Lembur Sawah, Mulyaharja, Bogor City, and was also attended by buddies and teams from IPB.

Carrying the concept of Half Day Tour to get to know Sundanese culture, the activity began with a warm welcome at a typical Sundanese stilt house, followed by a tour around the area that displays the atmosphere of traditional life of the Bogor community. Students were invited to see firsthand the wooden kitchen, goat and sheep farms owned by residents, as well as local agricultural practices that are part of the rich agrarian culture of the people of West Java.

The activity became more exciting with a tracking session along the green rice fields that stretch naturally, accompanied by the cool air typical of the Bogor hills. Not only that, students also enthusiastically participated in learning sessions to play traditional angklung musical instruments and make Sundanese snacks “randa kasasar”, a traditional flour-based food that is processed simply but full of cultural meaning.

In addition to introducing local culture directly, this activity became a place for reflection and appreciation of the cross-cultural learning process they had gone through. In the testimony and impression session, students conveyed their experiences while in Indonesia. One of the students from Japan, Shun Ito, said “My experience at IPB is very valuable. I was able to meet many extraordinary people, learn many things, even now I am more fluent in Indonesian. I will never forget the kindness of the Indonesian people.”

The event then continued with the submission of the program completion certificate, the provision of mementos in the form of angklung and Indonesian food packages, and a group photo session as a closing activity. This moment not only left good memories for the foreign students but also strengthened the image of IPB University as an international campus that upholds the value of inclusiveness and local culture.

IPB’s Director of International Education, in her speech, expressed the hope that this activity would be the starting point of a long-term relationship between the inbound alumni and IPB, and open wider avenues for research and educational collaboration in the future.

Through this activity, IPB University once again demonstrated its commitment in promoting educational and cultural diplomacy, as well as expanding international networks that are humanist and impactful.
