IPB University Ranks Top 45 Globally in THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026
Times Higher Education (THE) has released the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026. According to the latest results, IPB University is ranked 42nd in the world, rising from last year’s position of 60th. This ranking reaffirms IPB University as the top institution in Indonesia, achieving a score of 69.7. It is followed by Institut Teknologi Bandung (64.2), Universitas Indonesia (64.0), and Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (62.5).
IPB University Rector, Prof. Arif Satria, emphasized the university’s strong commitment to advancing interdisciplinary science. “IPB University has adequate physical facilities to support interdisciplinary research. The Center for Transdisciplinary and Sustainability Sciences (CTSS), laboratories, the main library, incubators, and innovation hubs all demonstrate our commitment to enhancing the quality of research and innovation,” Prof. Arif said (20/11).
He further explained that IPB University also operates several living laboratories, including the Campus Forest Park, various arboretums, educational plantations and farms, marine aquaculture stations, in-situ conservation sites, and more. “We continue to promote the establishment of national and international research consortia. IPB University provides incentives for interdisciplinary research by offering grant support for publications and citations, especially for academic staff who publish in journals that span multiple scientific fields,” he added.
The scope of the Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2026 has been expanded to include research projects that combine STEM disciplines with one or more non-STEM fields such as social sciences, education, psychology, law, economics, or clinical and health sciences. The ranking aims to measure universities’ contributions and commitments to interdisciplinary science.
According to timeshighereducation.com, a total of 911 universities from 94 countries/regions were included in the ranking. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) secured the top position for the second consecutive year. Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, ranked fifth and is the highest-ranked university in Asia. Wageningen University and Research (WUR) the Netherlands, leads Europe at ninth place globally.
