STUDY VISIT CEBCAT 2025 IN VIENTIANE, LAOS: STRENGTHENING CAPACITY AND COLLABORATION TOWARDS A CIRCULAR ECONOMY
From 22 to 26 September 2025, the Settha Palace Hotel in Vientiane, Laos, hosted an important event — the Study Visit Capacity Building program, designed to support the transition towards a circular economy. The event brought together academics, practitioners, and stakeholders from various institutions to exchange knowledge, experiences, and updates on the CEBCAT project they are jointly implementing.
The first day opened with registration and a warm welcome session led by key figures including the Vice Rector of NUoL and the CEBCAT Project Coordinator. Participants enthusiastically joined a group photo session to capture the start of the program. This was followed by a consortium meeting discussing progress reports on several work packages (WPs) presented by partner institutions, including USC, EuroTraining, ULBS, and others. The discussions were dynamic, reflecting the strong commitment of all parties to ensuring the smooth progress of the project.
On the second day, the agenda focused on the implementation of dissemination plans and capacity-building courses. Participants addressed key technical issues such as accreditation and project financial management, which are crucial for the long-term sustainability of the initiative. In addition to face-to-face sessions, an evaluation meeting with the External Advisory Committee was held virtually from Spain, further strengthening the project’s global network. The day concluded with strategic agreements aimed at refining the program’s implementation.
The third day marked the highlight of the event with an intensive training session on sustainability fundamentals and the circular economy, delivered by experts from ULBS. Participants gained not only in-depth theoretical insights but also valuable opportunities to strengthen relationships through cultural activities and networking sessions. Guest speakers from the Delegation of the European Union and French development agencies shared important perspectives on sustainable development in Laos. The evening’s official dinner created a warm atmosphere that further solidified collaboration among participants.
Beyond the training and discussions, participants were also invited to explore local culture and key landmarks as part of the study visit. The entire program not only enhanced capacity and knowledge but also fostered international networking, which is essential for accelerating the transition towards circular economy practices in Southeast Asia.
With its structured, intensive, and meaningful agenda, the CEBCAT 2025 Study Visit became a pivotal moment that inspires cross-country collaboration towards sustainable and environmentally friendly development. It is hoped that the positive outcomes from this visit will be widely adopted and disseminated, making a significant contribution to the future of the circular economy across the region.
