Visit of German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Secretary General to IPB University Strengthens German-Indonesian Academic Collaboration
Bogor, May 15, 2025 – IPB University received an official visit from the Secretary General of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Dr. Kai Sicks, and the Director of DAAD Regional Office Jakarta, Dr. Guido Schnieders. Dr. Sicks visit to Indonesia is in conjunction with the celebration of the 100th anniversary of DAAD. The visit was attended by representatives from DAAD, Nuffic the Netherlands, DAAD alumni, and more than 30 EU Mobility Programme for Myanmar (EMPM) students. The event began with an official welcome by the Rector of IPB, Prof. Arif Satria.
In the session with DAAD alumni at IPB, Dr. Sicks explained the role of DAAD in responding to global challenges over the past century. He also highly appreciate the long lasting collaboration between IPB and DAAD. IPB University was recently selected as one of the three recipients of the prestigious EU-ASEAN SCOPE HE grant. From over 120 proposals submitted, the Blue Economy Research Cluster led by Prof. Hefni Effendi, was chosen for its potential to contribute to sustainable connectivity and transformative research across the region. Beside that, Dr. Sebastian Ferse is currently appointed as DAAD long-term lecturer in Marine Science at IPB. IPB is also planning a Summer Course in collaboration with ZMT and the University of Bremen, to be supported by DAAD. Furthermore, IPB is also a secretariat of newly established DAAD Alumni Association for Marine Resources Studies (DAMARS).
The event continued with a student seminar from the EU Mobility Programme for Myanmar (EMPM), which highlighted the importance of access to higher education in a country in conflict. Mr. Stefan Hase-Bergen emphasized support for Myanmar students, both domestic and abroad, so that they can continue to complete their studies. The delegates also visited the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) IPB University and IPB Museum. These engagements exemplify IPB’s shared vision for inclusive, sustainable, and internationally connected higher education.
