Creating a Sustainable Water Resources Future, IPB University with Nuffic Southeast Asia and Wavemakers United Holds International Student Workshop
As an initiative step in increasing the involvement of academics and students related to water resources, IPB University in collaboration with Nuffic Southeast Asia and Wavemakers United held an International Student Workshop and Network Session.
“This collaboration confirms the commitment of IPB University, Nuffic Southeast Asia and Wavemakers United to empower the younger generation and create a sustainable future for the water resources sector,” said Director of International Education, Puji Mudiana, SP, MA.
The activity began with an explanation from Wavemakers United about its activities and cooperation in the World Water Forum which will be held in May 2024. In this session, plans for cooperation that can be implemented in the future were also presented.
Wavemakers United is a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) engaged in youth empowerment. The organisation encourages the participation of youth (students and young professionals) as ambassadors in promoting the efficient use of water resources and awareness of water resource use issues.
During this session, representatives of Wavemakers United also offered upcoming programmes available for IPB University students to join. These programmes include:
Provide opportunity for youth as Ambassadors: Wavemakers United is committed to educating one million children on water-related topics every year until 2030. To achieve this and make a bigger impact, there will be an ambassador in each country.
These ambassadors will receive basic education on water and spread the knowledge through guest lectures, water lab practices, and social media to the next generation in primary and secondary education.
Road to Indonesian Wave Launching: In collaboration with Nuffic Southeast Asia and The Water Agency, Wavemakers United will launch the Indonesian Wave in preparation for the 2024 World Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia.
The Indonesian Wave consists of a steering group involving representatives from universities, government, private sector, NGOs and foundations. The visit to Indonesia aims to bring together various stakeholders, including students.
Road to “Future Is Now” event in the 10th World Water Forum 2024: Ahead of the World Water Forum 2024, Wavemakers United, Nuffic Southeast Asia, and The Water Agency organised guest lectures discussing water challenges in three different countries: Australia, Vietnam and Indonesia.
The visit to Indonesia was aimed at publicising the “Future is Now” event, so that more people know about the event. (*/Rz) (IAAS/RUM)
