IPB University and Xiamen University Strengthen Collaboration in Marine Science through Tan Kah Kee Research Vessel
Bogor, June 10, 2025 – IPB University received an official visit from the delegation of Xiamen University, China, as part of a strategic initiative to strengthen collaboration in the fields of marine, fisheries, and international education programs. The Xiamen University delegation include Prof. Luo Ya-Wei as Deputy Dean of the College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, Prof. Wang Haili as Director of Marine Operations, Dr. Zhou Kuanbo as Associate Professor of the College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, as well as administrative and operational representatives from the marine division. From IPB University, a number of leaders were present, including the Vice Rector for Global Connectivity, Cooperation and Alumni Prof. Dr. Ir. Iskandar and the Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Prof. Dr. Fredinan Yulianda.
In this warm and productive meeting, both parties expressed great hopes to build long-term cooperation involving knowledge exchange, collaborative research, and student exchange. Dr. Eva Anggraini, the Director of Global Connectivity IPB University, emphasized the importance of discussing and agreeing on core areas of collaboration that will form the basis of future joint programs. Prof. Ario Damar added that IPB not only has competence in marine research, but is also strong in the field of freshwater, which can be a unique research synergy space with Xiamen University.
The main agenda of this collaboration is planned to be implemented in August 2025, when Xiamen University’s Tan Kah Kee research vessel is scheduled to dock at Tanjung Priok Port, Jakarta. The vessel will arrive on August 6, and the main activity will take place on August 8 and 9 in the form of an Open House. Through this collaboration, IPB University and Xiamen University will not only expand their global academic network, but also encourage a wider exchange of knowledge and research experience by making the research vessel a cross-country learning platform. This visit is a strategic first step towards a strong, sustainable and impactful international partnership.
