IPB University Strengthened Academic Collaboration with DAAD to Advance Global Research and Innovation

IPB University strengthened its international academic collaboration with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) through discussions on collaborative research, student and staff mobility, and innovation to address global challenges.

This commitment was highlighted during the official visit of DAAD President Prof. Joybrato Mukherjee to IPB University on October 22 2026, which was the only university in Indonesia selected to host his official visit.

Rector Dr. Alim Setiawan Slamet stated that IPB University’s relationship with DAAD had developed into a strategic partnership that had made a tangible contribution to higher education. This was reflected in the presence of more than 100 DAAD alumni among IPB University’s lecturers and researchers.

“We are honored by this visit. We hope this occasion will open up opportunities for closer collaboration with DAAD and various institutions in Germany, particularly in joint research, academic mobility, and innovation to address global challenges,” he said during his welcoming remarks at the courtesy visit held at the IPB Dramaga Campus on October 22.

One notable achievement of this collaboration was IPB University’s selection as one of only three recipients of the prestigious SCOPE-HE (EU–ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package–Higher Education) grant. Out of more than 120 proposals submitted, the Blue Economy Research Cluster development project, led by Prof. Hefni Effendi, was selected for its potential to promote sustainable connectivity and transformative research across the region.

DAAD President Prof. Joybrato Mukherjee emphasized the strategic importance of the partnership. “Indonesia is a strategic partner for Germany. We have very strong ties between universities in Germany and Indonesia, including IPB University. This visit aims to strengthen these relationships and explore new opportunities for cooperation,” he said.

He also highlighted the growing relevance of Indonesia–Germany collaboration in addressing challenges related to food security, agriculture, land use, and climate change. IPB University’s partnerships with German institutions, including universities in Kiel and Bremen, provide a foundation for the development of cross-border research.

In addition, IPB University participates in the EU Mobility Program for Myanmar and organized summer courses in collaboration with the Leibniz Centre for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT) and the University of Bremen, with support from DAAD. These initiatives reflect the ongoing commitment of both parties to building an inclusive, sustainable, and globally connected higher education ecosystem.
